TEETHING
by Donna Cox of
Alsoomse Pixiebobs
One of my little ones (Pixie-Bob kitten) had a bit
of a rough time teething. Now at the time I didn’t
realise what was wrong. I looked in her mouth,
tongue and gums nice and pink. No swelling, teeth
ok, no lumps or bumps, nothing stuck in there.
For the life of me I couldn’t work it out for a few
hours what was wrong. I sat and watched her very
carefully. She was grinding her teeth and pushing
food from one side of her mouth to the other. I
could see that she was hungry but also couldn’t be
bothered to eat. Something was hurting her!
Again I picked her up, gave her a cuddle and stroked
her talking to her gently. She just looked at me
chirping. Now this might sound stupid, but the poor
little thing was trying to tell me something. She
was also hot. I was getting upset wondering what was
wrong, so I watched again each time she returned to
her food bowl.
Please believe me, this time I was stretched out on
the floor watching as closely as I could as she was
trying to eat. My husband was watching her as well.
Anyone who has children will tell you what babies go
through when they are cutting teeth. Well, we
discovered our poor little babe had two back teeth
coming through, right at the back. When she was
trying to eat it was really hurting her. That’s why
she was moving her food from side to side, had a
temperature and was just cuddled up all day not
wanting to know anything or anybody.
It was three days before she was back on her feet.
Just in case people think I am the nuttiest cat
breeder there ever has been, guess what? Two lovely
back teeth now through pearly white. Little
Pixie-Bob eating for England. I, large Vodka & tonic
and heart beat back to normal. This article is
